Choosing vendors for your wedding can be super stressful and anxiety-filled. You want to make sure that you choose who will do the best job to make your day everything you ever dreamed of! I’m here to say that window shopping for a photographer is perfectly normal and here are some tips on how to choose the best one for you and your husband/wife-to-be!

oh, hi!

I'm Kati -

I'm a Wisconsin based engagement + wedding photographer with HUGE dreams. If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with tacos, puppies, stationery stores, pineapples, and EVERYTHING Magnolia!

This one is SUPER important. You’re going to be spending a full 8+ hours with this person on the most important day of your life. Do you want to be stuck with someone that just doesn’t get you? I didn’t think so. Take a look through their Instagram, Facebook, and website. Actually READ their posts and look through their story highlights and content. Do you like the things they’re saying/showing? If you do, then awesome! Keep them in the running!

This is kind of two-fold. One, do you like the kind of photos that they take? Are they fun and action filled or are they still and posed? A healthy mixture of both? Do they evoke feeling in you? I think these are all important qualities you need to think about when choosing what kind of photography you like. And two, do you like how they edit their photos? Whether it be light and airy or dark and moody or somewhere in between, make sure you like what they do because, guess what, asking “can you change your editing style for me?” is kind of a not cool thing to ask a photographer. After all, they’ve spent years trying to hone their skills and find a style they love, themselves. You should love their photos as is and know that they can provide you with the same quality.

Ok so now that you’ve found a photographer that you like, it’s time to start thinking of reaching out to them and inquiring about their services for your wedding. Check out their website and see if there’s a contract form and fill that out! Most often, this is the easiest and quickest way for photographers to see that you’re interested. Sometimes your inquiries can get lost in Instagram and Facebook DMs. Do they answer your inquiry in a timely manner? This means usually 24 hours. Do they answer follow-up messages just as quickly? Do they offer to meet up in person/skype/give you a call to further discuss what your needs are? It’s nice to know that someone will be there and is willing to show up for you when you need them!

Let’s face it, sometimes the photographer you’ve had your eyes on for years is a little too far out of your budget for comfort. Maybe if you know you absolutely NEED them, you can make sacrifices in other areas of your budget to make it work. The most important thing to remember is that we charge what we do for a reason. We value our clients and vow to give them 150% before, on, and after your wedding day. This means all the time and work we put into planning your timeline, communicating with you, and researching your wedding venue so we know the lighting situations before arrival. We are on our feet all day long making sure we are capturing all the little moments with everyone you love. Then after that we spend countless hours culling, fine tuning, and getting your photos ready for you to share and print. Most of the time we’re doing all of these things for several clients all at the same time in various stages of the process. Please know that we absolutely LOVE doing all of this but it is the way we make our living and we can’t thank you enough for appreciating that!
